Sometimes, I am weak. God, you set me upon this course. I get weary. I get impatient. I get frustrated. Can I persevere?

8 I have set the LORD always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.

9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure,

10 because you will not abandon me to the grave,
nor will you let your Holy One see decay.

11 You have made known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
(Psalm 16:8-11)

Sometimes I am weak. I need peace of mind. I need comfort. I need now.

Lord, set my eyes on the eternal.

  1. Are you reading my thoughts? Things can get so overwhelming, but I keep being reminded, “look to the eternal word.” That’s the final. That’s my focus. Thank you for the encouragement. It is much appreciated.

  2. Thank you. I know this is for yourself but I just read this scripture out loud. And will remember it for the whole day.

    The Psalms are so encouraging. David was having struggles and questions and weaknesses himself too. But what he most ended with the Psalms was praising God. I felt a bit empty this morning. Not going to let that stay with me. God has been so good to me. Enough to be thankful for. I thank Him for you and your wonderful wife. All of a sudden I have this thought. God gave your wife for you. For a reason. And you are an amazing man and friend. Thank you, Lord. I’m sorry but I don’t feel empty anymore. I pray for you.

  3. Thank God for David’s journal entries. We get to witness tons of transparency with his writings. One of my favorites is:

    “Arise, Lord! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.” Psalm 3:7

    Can you imagine what would happen if we prayed this prayer on Sunday morning? But still, I like it. When we are honest before God, like you have been in this post, we are in good biblical company.

  4. Lord fill me with your joy! In this world filled with troubles, may your love maintain me. Help me to keep my eyes on you. Help me to be constantly living for the eternal in you. May others see all that you are in me and want to be in them. May your kingdom come. May your word be done. On earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

    Thank you Herb for encouraging us and lifting us up as you share your journey.

    1. It really is amazing how that works!

      OK, sidetrack: your statement made me thinking of those paintings where the eyes seem to follow you no matter where you are in the room.
